"Like many, I had a less than perfect childhood and devouring picture books was one of my many safety nets. Kay Thompson, Antoine de Saint Exupéry, Jesse Wilcox Smith, Kate Greenaway, and Louis Slobodkin these were my dearest friends. Art and creativity were encouraged from an early age, as my mother was a teacher and artist. My dad is very musical and was a journalist for a time. Many in my family are creative in some way -- writers, educators, designers, musicians. My brother is a filmmaker, so Ive had a lot of inspiration close to home.
I began Texas Christian University as a studio art major, but fell head over heels in love with art history. I was blessed with wonderful jobs at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and later at the MFA Houston , Rienzi. I am so thankful for the many artists, art historians and arts benefactors who had such a strong impact on my life.
Oddly enough, becoming a mother hastened my development as an artist and really gave me the guts to follow my heart. My husband and I moved to Dallas in the 90s and the city has had a profound effect on my progress, as well.
Being from Houston and then attending school in Fort Worth, I had a lot of negative noise in my head about Dallas, but I was so wrong. When we moved here, we found amazing, accessible people from all walks of life. The arts thrive here, there is a great respect for the history of our town, fashion is cutting edge and the local dining and music scenes are innovative and sincere.
By combining media, including but not limited to collage, painting, drawing and assemblage, I find great joy in creating my work. Each piece has its own personality, history and message. I love when art invites the viewer to be a part of the action.
Serving as foundation to every aspect of my life is my faith. I am blessed to lead a free-spirited, unconventional, womens Bible study and spirituality group called Zuzus Petals, at my church, Greenland Hills United Methodist."
"I am so thankful for my family. I could not fulfill the many desires of my heart without the love and support of my sweet husband and two beautiful daughters.
